Proposal – A Community Workers Branch of the Anti-Poverty Network SA
The Anti-Poverty Network SA (APNSA) is a grassroots group that seeks to activate and empower low income people on welfare payments, involving them in advocacy, campaigning, and educational projects.
The group is composed of job-seekers, sole parents, carers, students, and Disability and Aged Pensioners, and seeks to be a voice for those out of work and living in poverty, who frequently experience policies that punish them instead of supporting them. It is led by those who have experienced first-hand the stresses of financial hardship and unemployment.
SAFCA is assisting the APNSA in establishing a Community Workers branch, and welcome expressions of interest from our members. This branch would allow workers in the sector to interact, and share ideas and stories with people from our group on a regular basis.
APNSA and SAFCA recognise that many of the community sector’s battles, for instance, for greater and more reliable funding of services, are fights that directly impact on vulnerable low-income people.
We know there is plenty of goodwill and sympathy from many in the sector, who recognise the importance of low-income people speaking for themselves, sharing their often ignored experiences
and insights. And we know the insights of those affected by disadvantage can help improve how social services are designed and delivered.
If you are interested in becoming part of this initiative, please contact the SAFCA office at firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 0427 823 656
