CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT I PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY

The Professional Development cycle involves reviewing practice, identifying learning needs, planning and participating in relevant learning activities, and reflecting on the value of those activities

The National Standards require all members to accrue  20 points of PD per year. There must be at least one PD in each of the three areas below:

  • Technical (legal, banking, fines, EDR/IDR, super, hardship, insurance, budgeting, financial literacy, CALD issues).
     
  • Skills (counselling, mental health, communication (written, verbal), interviewing, cultural awareness, suicide prevention/training).
     
  • Ethics (conflict of interest; boundaries; counselling relationships; cultural awareness; options- client choices; appropriate referral to other service).

SAFCA conducts a random annual audit of at least 10% of it members. As such, accurate record keeping of all PD  and supervision is essential.
